Business travel can sometimes be very demanding. Even though you may be visiting a far-off locale, rest assured it is not a vacation. Your trip can be stressful and tiring, whether you are off to visit a customer overseas or meet with your new boss across the country. The way to keep up your energy and maintain your professional image is through detailed preparation. With this in mind, let’s take a look at a few tips for business trip taking.

Before boarding any flight to anywhere, you will want to do some research on your destination. This means learning about things such as its history, points of interest, cuisine, and geography. If you are visiting a foreign country and are unfamiliar with its language, it would be a good idea to learn a few key phrases. The internet and the library are founts of information on all of these matters.

Cultural awareness is vital for any successful foreign business trip.

This means being up to speed with cultural practices such as introductions, the exchange of business cards, gift giving, names and titles, and other local practices. Your business success may depend on whether you know to offer a handshake or present a bow instead.

One of the most embarrassing things that can befall a businessperson is being unaware of local tipping practices. This may sound insignificant, but you will not impress your colleagues or clients if you do not know that a gratuity has already been automatically been added to your bill. In some places no tip at all is expected, and can actually be construed as insulting if you do tip.

Obviously how much you pack is dependent on the length of your trip. But it is good to remember that your traveling will be infinitely easier if you have fewer things to tote around.

A good rule of thumb is to lay out what you think you will need to bring, and then throw half of that stuff back in your closet and dresser. Consider traveling with a garment bag. They have good storage space, can be carried on board (no waiting at the luggage carousel) and help prevent wrinkles.

There are a few essentials that you will want to remember to bring. If you are traveling overseas it is worthwhile to buy an oversized wallet-one that will accommodate your passport and local currency, as well as business cards and credit cards. A global travel adaptor can also be invaluable. It automatically detects incoming voltage and converts it to 120-volt AC power, great for electric razors and hair dryers. Try to find one that also supports USB for your cell phone and computer.

Carrying proper documentation and having sufficient cash on hand are two key things to remember. It may not be enough to have your passport with you. Some countries require visas for entry. Your business image may become permanently tarnished if you are refused entry. It is also a good idea to convert some money into local currency before you leave. That way you are not hunting for an exchange booth after you land.

These are but a few ideas to think about before you leave for the airport. In the end, it all boils down to preparation. The more of it you do, the less grief you will suffer later on.

There are many factors involved in a business trip planning; getting proper rest before you go, transporting and protecting your things, keeping in contact with your office, just to name a few. Getting prepared isn’t always easy when you have all of that on your plate. On top of all that you have to make your business trip as productive and cost effective as possible. There are many items needed for business trips, but here are six that you must have to be able to do business properly.

1) Medication
Not just all of your personal prescription medications, which are obviously vital to pack, you will also need to compile a small first-aid kit and keep it with you at all times. They are a very common item and can be picked up at any drug store. This is especially true when visiting a foreign country where you do not speak the language. This way if you have a minor medical need, you will have everything to take care of it yourself.

2) Inflatable Travel Pillow
Let’s face it, carrying around an actual pillow is cumbersome at best.

Your best option for portability is using a lightweight travel pillow that inflates. Regardless of your mode of transportation, plane, train, or automobile, it will come in handy. Even if you are driving a car, you will be thankful you brought one. This is especially true if you need to pull over for a little catnap.

3) Plug Adapter
If your business trip is taking you to another country, you will have to have an electric plug adapter to be able to use any of your handy electronic gadgets. Without one you will look like a fool and probably not be able to even conduct much business due to the dependence most businesses have on technology.

4) Voltage Converter
You need a voltage converter for much of the same reasons you need a plug adapter. Voltage rates vary from country to country. So, having one device that lets you use electricity from them all will be very important. Currently there are many electronics, but not all, that allow for a range of voltages. Be very certain, otherwise you may permanently fry your devices.

5) Surge Protector
While we may have built in wiring in our homes to protect against power surges, this is not true everywhere. You need to be sure your electronics are protected from being damaged from an electrical surge.

6) Noise-canceling Headphones
These are an absolute must for those who need to rest or get work done in a noisy environment. Just be careful to reserve their use in relatively safe situations because they block all noise and you will not be able to hear if there is any danger.

Careful planning can ensure that your business trips go as smoothly as possible. With these six items that should not be a problem on your next business trip.

A good business trip takes careful planning. So does maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight. If you travel frequently in your line of work, or for your business, you know how difficult it can be to keep up good habits and how easy it is to slip into bad ones. The good news is that, with a little added preparation and smart choices, you can considerably reduce that risk. Here’s how:

- Set realistic goals – Goals will help you stay focused while you are away, but be realistic. For example, instead of losing weight, why not set maintaining your current weight as your goal?

- Be prepared – It’s easier to maintain your health and weight with a little preparation. For example, call ahead to the hotel where you are staying and see if they have a fitness centre. Or, for frequent stays, consider a pass to a local facility. And be sure to take along your workout gear.

- Scan the menu – Taking time to review your choices will help you make healthy ones.

Consider:

- Avoiding foods with descriptions such as ‘fried,’ ‘crispy,’ or ‘battered.’ They are likely high in fat. Instead, look for high-fibre meals, like a baked potato or salad.

- For baked potatoes and salads, avoid high-calorie dressings and sour cream, or extras such as meat, cheese, egg and croutons. Or, ask to have dressings and toppings on the side so you can control your portions.

- Ordering a small or kid-size portion. This is a great way to reduce the amount of calories, sodium and fat you consume.

- Eat on schedule – Skipping meals or not eating for long periods increases your hunger and the risk that you will overeat when you finally make time for food.

- Curb the urge to splurge – Keep snacks like graham crackers and fruit on hand in your car, bag or briefcase.

This will help keep your appetite in check when standing at the buffet table or ordering a meal.

- Forego fast food where possible – If fast-food restaurants are your only option, remember that many now have health-smart choices. Be sure to ask for the nutritional information and check the calorie, fat and fibre counts before ordering. Often, these choices aren’t healthier than what’s on the main menu. Avoid the value meals; the calorie content is generally equal to two meals.

Planning a business trip within the UK or even overseas can be a bit of a monotonous activity, particularly if you plan to stay for awhile or having a particularly long flight to endure. Business trips of this sort have become ever more popular in recent years, in particular with business moving more and more overseas and companies eager to move their resources and materials around the globe in search of the best ways to save a few extra pounds on their balance sheets. Some while the company may be paying for your trip, you may still be given the task of organising it, and if you have then there are certainly a few things you need to look at prior to booking your flight or accommodations and this article will guide you in the right direction.

The first thing you need to do is book your flight, if necessary, well in advance. The most important thing to do when looking for flights is to perform a quick search in a major search engine and seek out the best deal.

Do this far enough in advance and you will be able to book the best deal – this particular advice goes for any form of public transport, including trains. The second thing you need to find is good accommodation and this is generally where things get that little bit more difficult for anyone going on a business trip.

The first thing you should look for is peace and quiet and a relatively central location close to all necessary amenities. More and more business people are choosing to stay on the outskirts of a major city, this allows for the possibility of commuting relatively easy into the centre of town while also providing the opportunity to enjoy some peace and quiet to work when you need to do so.

The most important things to look for in a hotel for most people is WiFi connectivity and conferencing facilities. Providing these two options have been catered to then you should be in possession of everything you need to make your business trip a success.
